Things come to a head between Merida and her mother when Merida learns of her betrothal. She turns to magic she doesn’t understand to solve her problems. She wants to be free…but free to do what? Shoot arrows and play in the woods? That’s hardly a reasonable direction in life.Ģ. She doesn’t want an arranged marriage with one of the kingdom’s lords…and that’s about it. We can see that she likes archery and exploring the woods, but all we know about her goals in life is what she doesn’t want. Most Disney princesses have goals, even if, for some, it is just finding true love. I will also be making some comparisons between Merida and other Disney princesses with similar traits to further explain why I picked her.Ī good role model for young girls should have goals and dreams.
